September 16th, 2021, is a day when history was created in Umoid. It was the first day of the new college — St. Xavier’s College Umoid.
With 55 students enrolled in the four majors that are offered, Education, History, Political Science and Sociology, the college began the year with an Orientation programme. There were prayers of blessing and thanksgiving offered. The students interacted with each other and learnt about the traditions of Jesuit colleges and the expectations of St. Xavier’s.
The College Office is open on all working days from 9:00am – 3:00pm. It remains closed on Saturdays, Sundays and other public holidays.
These are the HONORS-ELECTIVES subject combinations offered (in keeping with NEHU directives).
EDUCATION (Major) with any two Electives from History, Political Science and Sociology.
HISTORY (Major) with any two Electives from Education, Political Science and Sociology.
POLITICAL SCIENCE (Major) with any two Electives from Education, History and Sociology.
SOCIOLOGY (Major) with the two Electives of Education and History (Note: NEHU does not permit Political Science as an Elective for Sociology Honors ).
St. Xavier’s Umoid Hr. Sec School and College students will be able to avail of two private buses that will transport students from the Mawkyrwat townand from the Sawsymper-Pongkung area to Umoid on all working days.
The Mawkyrwat – Umoid bus will leave from the CnRD Office, Mawkyrwat, (near Nativity School) for Umoid at 7:45am sharp. Students interested in availing of the bus facility, or in getting more information, are requested to directly contact the bus owner, Bah. Sebarius Marwein from Jakrem. His cell number is 6909640650.
The Sawsymper/Pongkung area bus will leave from Laitmawsiang for Umoid at 7:45am sharp. Students interested in availing of the bus facility, or in getting more information, are requested to directly contact the bus owner, Bah Paul Lyngkhoi of Mawteiba . His cell number is 9366232670.
In the evening, both bus will leave from St. Xavier’s Umoid at 4:15pm.
The owners of the buses will fix the cost for travel, offering students the option of a monthly rate or, for the infrequent bus user, a daily rate. To save time and avoid reaching late, both buses have been requested to come directly to Umoid and to not make any detours. Students will need to come to the pickup and drop off points along the route.
COLLEGE WOMEN’S HOSTEL
St. Xavier’s College has a Women’s Hostel from this year. The hostel seeks to provide female students with affordable living and studying facilities and an all-round formation.
# Admission preference is given based on a student’s circumstances and need.
# If there is room, students of the Higher Secondary School may also be admitted. Inquire in the College Office.
# Some financial assistance may be available.
# The hostel is being run by the MSMHC Sisters.
