NEW ADMINISTRATIVE-ARTS BUILDING

The architect’s rendition of the new Administrative block and Arts section
A new College Arts-Admin building is being constructed on site by Mr. Mebansan Lyndem, an experienced contractor from the Shillong area, and the structure should be ready for partial use by June 2023. The building will have 5 stories, with office spaces, classrooms, halls, and all the other facilities that one may find in a modern college. In the meantime, the college is being temporarily housed in another structure until the new building is completed. Even in the existing structure, the students enjoy bright and airy classrooms, with comfortable furniture.

Through a Special Grant received from the Chief Minister’s fund, the college is developing a full-sized Football Field. The ground levelling work was slowed down by the monsoon rains, but the ground should be ready for use by February 2023. In the meantime, there is a local ground in adjacent to the college which students are able to use.

Basically, with good facilities, a committed faculty and hard-working staff, the students of the college have been excelling within and outside the classroom.

The college, in keeping with its Jesuit tradition, seeks to form students who are competent, committed, and compassionate citizens of the world.

THE PATRICK AND MILLICENT D’SOUZA LIBRARY

The St. Xavier’s College Library is dedicated to Patrick and Millicent D’Souza, in honour of whom Ms. Jean D’Souza made a significant contribution.

Mr. Patrick D’Souza was a successful businessman in Bombay. An avid reader and a regular visitor to the local library, he passed on this love for books to his children.

Millicent D’Souza, the eldest daughter of Patrick, was a teacher by profession. Her students were from around the world, and many would return in later years to thank her for all she had taught them. Like her father, Millicent also loved to read. She was also a great storyteller. Children loved listening to her stories and would often accompany on long evening walks just to hear another episode in a seemingly endless tale.

St. Xavier’s College is deeply indebted to the D’Souza family for helping establish a good library for the staff and students. It is because of their generosity and love for books that the College is able to build and encourage a love for books and reading in its students.
