Nestled amid the serene hills of Umoid in the South-West Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, St. Xavier’s College stands as a credible and quality-driven institution of higher education in a region long challenged by educational, social, and economic disadvantages. Established at the invitation of the Bishop of Nongstoin and in response to the deep aspirations of the Maram people, the College was envisioned as a catalyst of transformation through education. The establishment of St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School on June 5, 2019 became the forerunner of the College.
St. Xavier’s College, Umoid is a Catholic-Jesuit institution run by the members of the Society of Jesus, commonly known as Jesuits. Jesuit education has been shaping minds and hearts of its students for nearly 500 years. Founded with the vision of forming men and women for others, the College seeks to empower students with knowledge, values, and skills to make a meaningful difference in their society - individuals who are intellectually competent, morally grounded and committed to serving others.
Our faculty, staff and students come from different backgrounds, but together, we strive toward the same goal - to make a difference in the lives of our students and society. But, what makes St. Xavier’s different? Our students receive an education that stresses the importance of Magis (excellence), curiosity, men and women for others and cura personalis, which translates to “care for the whole person.” These help them to live a purpose-driven life.

St. Xavier’s College traces its origins to St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, which was established in June 2019 with Arts and Commerce streams. Building on this strong foundation, the College commenced its undergraduate programmes in 2021 with an initial cohort of 34 students. Within a short span of time, the institution earned a reputation for academic excellence, with its students securing university ranks and distinctions in 2024 and 2025, marking consistent achievement in its formative years.
In 2023, the College adopted the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, reflecting its commitment to progressive education. The institution has since witnessed steady growth in enrolment and academic stature, admitting 584 students in the academic year 2025. Today, St. Xavier’s College continues to strive for excellence by fostering intellectual development, professional competence, and value-based education among its students.
